We are people of faith not fear nor panic! Christ promised to be with all His followers and the Holy Spirit assures that. Jesus did say that in this world we will have trouble (John 16:33), and we are now facing one! A global pandemic called COVID-19 that continues to touch both the young and the old. No doubt you have been following the news for the most recent updates on its spread and impact.

The Alliance posted this on their website: On March 12, 2020, the BC Provincial Health Officer directed all event organizers that they are required to cancel any gathering larger than 250 people. This includes religious and church gatherings. At this point, I know of no one from SVCC who has contracted the coronavirus. However, do we take a risk in our gathering after wise counsel from doctors, scientists, and leaders in our midst? I care for all your wellbeing, and I want us to protect the pregnant mothers, the babies, the children and youth along with the adults in our church family. We need to take this outbreak in the world very seriously. God calls us to use good counsel, common sense and discernment in living in this world. One thing is certain – this too will pass! Our faith will steady the course of living in uncertain times and events.

The Elders and I have made a decision to cancel this Sunday’s Service (March 15, 2020). The church building may be closed, but God is always open. This does not stop our pastoral care for you through prayer and personal visits. While at home this Sunday you can read, pray and worship as a family. Make this an occasion to build faith in a strong and mighty God, to talk among your children and family. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10). Be strong. Be prayerful. Take care of yourself and your family. Follow the guidelines by the health personnel. Let’s trust in Christ’s victory over this together. I will be praying for all of us and the situation our world is facing that many will come to Christ. Let this be an occasion for God to triumph in His world.

God Bless! Pastor Dinesh.
